Why convert HEIC to JPG?

HEIC (the container around Apple's HEIF photos) packs great quality into a small file, but that efficiency comes at the cost of compatibility: send a HEIC to a Windows PC, attach it to certain email systems, or upload it to a form, and it often simply won't open. JPG is the universal photographic format every device has understood for years. Converting HEIC → JPG produces a slightly larger but universally readable file, and because JPG quality is adjustable you can keep the result visually identical to the original. Everything happens on your device, so even photos with location data in them are never uploaded.

HEIC vs JPG: the format differences

HEIC/HEIF is Apple's modern, space-efficient photo format — superb on an iPhone, but poorly supported off it. JPG is older, slightly larger, has no transparency, and is accepted by essentially every program, website and device. Converting HEIC → JPG decodes the HEIF image on your device and re-encodes it as JPG at your chosen quality, so the photo opens anywhere.
