  • 100% in-browser — your images never leave your device

Why convert PNG to JPG?

PNG is lossless, so a photo saved as PNG keeps perfect quality but pays for it in file size. JPG uses lossy compression tuned for photographs and continuous-tone images, discarding detail the eye barely notices. For camera photos, gradients, or any image where you don't need transparency, JPG produces a dramatically smaller file at near-identical visual quality. The trade-off: JPG can't store transparency — a transparent PNG background becomes solid — and repeatedly re-saving a JPG slowly degrades it.

PNG vs JPG: the format differences

PNG is lossless with full alpha transparency, which makes it ideal for screenshots, line art, logos and anything with sharp edges or text. JPG is lossy with no transparency channel, and it's built for photographs. Converting PNG → JPG flattens any transparency onto a solid background and applies photographic compression to cut the file size.
